"anywhere you go there you are" is the title of a book my mom used to own i saw that posted on the first page i think...so no points for originality...how about something like..."when you follow the pack all you see is a bunch of rear ends"  adaptation from another saying (when youre not the lead dog the scenery never changes)...or how about "chess, like music and women, can drive a man to drink"

These are what I came up with:

"Pawns are the cat's paw"

"Chess needs a brave king"

"The tactical should be practical"

"Playing chess without a plan is a roll of the dice"

"Knights can be heroic or devilish"

"A draw in chess is a plaything"

"Rooks are mysterious creatures"

"Bad bishops should be punished"

"All pawns dream of promoting"

"The queen wears the pants"

I know the original post asked for original quotes...but do such things exist?  I already attempted that...now from the master:

Tell me thy company and I will tell thee what thou art.

I drink when I have occasion, and sometimes when I have no occasion.

Folly is wont to have more followers and comrades than discretion.

Hell is paved with priests' skulls.

There's no taking trout with dry breeches.

Usually I need to have few before I get all philosophical but here it goes:

Life without regret is a life unlived.

There is no thief worse than the one who will steal your time.

The rougher the waves, the smoother the pebble.

True beauty lies in the uncut diamond.

Don't piss into the wind.

Sacrifice. Your loss now will eventually benefit those who outlast you.

Got this off a demotivational poster that shows a white pawn approaching the entire black row.
