I am new to chess, I know the real basic stuff, like how the pieces move, etc. I don't understand why some people are such jerks. Not on this site but playing Chess on Yahoo games people love to put me down, tell how terrible I am. I know I'm not the best chess player(yet) but come on. All that does is motivate me to become a player. I guess I'm just venting here.

A good attitude goes far here, and good play is just a nice bonus.

If you are attentive and engage in serious self-help before asking a lot of questions you'll find excellent advice here that will do much to improve your skill level.

Some will happily be your friend. Not me though. Screw you.

As you are new to chess, I will give you a game and a few pointers, tips etc along the way. I have challenged you.

Yahoo! chess is notorious for this.  Chess.com is certinaly not immune, but it is much, much better here than it is there.

Yahcrap - sorry - Yahoo is KNOWN for hosting idiots and cheaters.  Trust me, anywhere is better.  Pogo is better.  FICS is better.  Here is way better.  WCL is better, ICC is better.

Being punched in the face is better than Yahoo Chess.

Yep, some of those Yahoos really are yahoos.  And the site itself only adds to the problem with that stupid ejector-seat idea.  What kind of mental defective came up with that?...boggles the mind.

Ejector-seat?  It's been 10+ years since I've played on there, what's the ejector-seat?

They have a nice interface. Of course the old one was better than the newer one.

There are many sites on the net that are like Yahoo.  People go there not to play chess but to ridicule, curse at and just start problems.  This site seems to be a lot better and I think that kind of attitude will not be toleratedhere.  At least I hope not but my first indications are it won't be.

Remember that if you feel that something is worthy of punitive action you can always use the Report Abuse link at the bottom of every page.  The staff here are very engaged and responsive and really are trying to make this a freindly fun place to come and play.  Particularly with Yahoo! as your baseline, I'm sure you'll find chess.com a much more cohesive and welcoming community.

I had some jerk on here accuse me of using a computer because he was rated 3 or 4 hundred points higher than me but beat him anyway.  So there are jerks everywhere, including this site.
