The question is, to talk during a game or not to talk, what do you think?

i too prefer to chat. maybe the opponent will be lenient when u become they're friend? haha... but the main reason i chat is just to liven it up a bit- quite dull to just play chess only right? socializing is always good

I enjoy chat after the game- win, lose or draw.  Frequently my opponents comments provide insight as to why they were able to beat me so badly.   Chat during the game for me all but always is accompanied with oversight.

Thats not all together true im a half decent chess player and i dont mind talking to people. Dont like smart arses but its cool getting to know different people dont need to be to serious about chess its still just a game really and we have long enough to play good chess and still be social.....Cool

"Isn't it a shame when people don't like to chat?"

A shame is the Dafur Genocide, not liking to chat is a personal preference that should be respected. I'm here to play chess not talk about baseball.

I think to not engage in a little chit-chat is bad manners.  I'm not saying that you have to engage in constant conversation, but an occasional 'how was your holiday?' or 'nice move!' is the least you can say every now and then.  After all, you are playing another human and not a machine.

I like to chat a bit...the problem is that I often get to comfortable and lose concentration.

I enjoy chatting.  I usually find that most people enjoy it also.  I think that once in awhile there are some people who leave it on the moves section and don't see the chat.   Also there are some people from different countries that don't speak english very well but sometimes we talk and are still able to add an aspect to the game of making a friend instead of just playing the game.

Helping out newbies is always easier when someone chats at you to tell you what a dumb move you made...so, I guess what I am saying is that I don't mind being told I made a dumb move-if it's something I can learn from.
