1.How is Fritz different from other engines (like Stockfish, Houdini etc)

2.What does the term "ECO" mean in openings (like A21, C17 etc)

Martin_Stahl

Never used Fritz so can't really comment on 1 but on 2, ECO is short for Encyclopedia of Chess Openings.

That didn't completely answer my question, but thanks anyway :)

Did question 2 get answered enough? That link should have enough information to explain that, much better than I would be able to here.

GM_Eeshaan

Ofcourse, thanks for thatSmile

Fritz is different because it includes both a GUI and an engine.  Stockfish and Houdini aren't stand alone products unless they are also bundled with a GUI.  Stockfish is open source; Houdini and Fritz are commercial products.  To confuse things of course, once you have Fritz, you can load it up with more than one engine; you don't have to stay with Fritz. For instance I run Houdini 1.5 with my Fritz 12. Older versions of Fritz are often available at substantial discount, but of course you can download free GUI's and engines if you like.  That help?

I was told that you are a helpful guy.

I set up the filter to a minimum of 1600 yet I keep getting lower rated opps. I do not see a save bottom now. It probably does not save the command. Is there a technical assistance on this site or ot runs like a ghost ship?

Opinion is mixed as to whether the site is more like a ghost ship or a ship of fools. Laughing Oh just kidding folks.  The live seeks have been completely overhauled recently.  I read that the way they work now is the logic seeks a compatible match in ever increasing circles from your rating.  I'll give you a couple of links; maybe they'll help.  Here's the Help & Support article:

https://support.chess.com/customer/portal/articles/1622811-how-are-seeks-matched-in-live-chess-

And here is the main thread:

http://www.chess.com/forum/view/livechess/new-logic-for-auto-pairing-and-seek-graph

Now you know as much as I do.  Support folks work hard at trying to answer questions but I think they're a little overwhelmed, especially with a whole new V3 of the site in Beta testing.  Hope I helped at least a little. Laughing
