Light hearted and obnoxious are different. Kovach's response would be light hearted w/o the parentheticals and the second sentence. His follow on response a few posts up seals the deal for me. But it's not a big deal really, he could be a nice guy offline, so it's all good. I find it amusing (e.g. light hearted) that this is even a sub-thread of Kasparov's Anger, and I'll forget all about it when I click "submit your comment."
It's clear the thread is dying down. It's hard to castigate a guy for a quote taken over 15 years ago when he's left professional chess to focus on his political efforts. Do you believe GK still holds this opinion? Can't say that I care if he does or not...it has no effect on the chess world in 2009...

You have point to make here? Is Jew still a separate nationality, in your mind, wherever it occurs? That Tal was a Jew is not surprising since Jews seem to be "over-represented" in most intellectual endeavors and in the Baltic states, that along with most of the western Russian (later Soviet) empire, were part of the pale of settlement in which Jews were confined under the Czars, apparently to make sure that the Jews got the the first of it and the worst of it should some western power come a-invading again as Napoleon did, and the Germans would do twice later. For that matter, MOST of the great Soviet players from 1948-on were Jews, in whole or part, and the rest (e.g. Keres, Petrosian) were not Russians, much to the embarrassment of the Kremlin. This would seem to account for the chicanery involved in promoting Anatoly Karpov, the first credible, ostensibly non-Jewish, and Russian contender that the Soviet system would ever produce.
You also forgot to mention that Geller was a Ukrainian Jew.

Kasparov is a russian blowhard. Pay no attention to his words, they are meaningless.
First off, he is not a RUSSIAN blowhard(1). If anything he is an Armenian blowhard by his mother, and comes from Azerbaijan not Russia. Second, as a product of the Soviet system the pot is definitely calling a kettle black regarding who might be described as a trained animal. Third, it is fairly obvious, to me at least, that no mere trained dog ever becomes one of the world's top 10 players or the youngest Grandmaster in history (at the time) and by the usual norm process, I believe, not by the shortcut of honorary award as was the case when Fischer achieved that feat, becoming an IM by virtue of appearing at Potoroz and GM by virtue of qualifying in the top 6 for the next event, Bled 1959. Fourth, Judith Polgar has a highly active tactical style that can hardly be described as mechanical or rote, and like Tal (and Kasparov for that matter) she can execute it successfully against the best players in the world. So, if he said this "for the record" and not in some offhand situation better ignored, he spoke both obnoxiously and stupidly. We can speculate as to his motivation, chauvinism, envy, etc but whatever, the great man was clearly full of caviar well past its prime on this topic.

(1) Reminds me of the Fischer story from Bled 1961 when he announced his intention to beat the four Russians (i.e. Soviets) present. It was pointed out that he had not played any Russians but rather a Latvian(Tal), Estonian(Keres), Armenian(Petrosian) and a Ukrainian (Geller) when he replied "You're all Russians to me!". Fischer nearly succeeded with 3.5 out of 4 (Keres drew) but Tal won the event by a full point over second place and undefeated Fischer by virtue of pounding the lower half of the chart (9.5/10 vs 7/10) even harder than Fischer had pounded the upper half (6.5/9 vs 5/9 including Tal's only loss). Actually, I believe Fischer became an IM when he won the US closed championship for the first time in 1957 at age 14.
cunny_funt: Take a look at some of Kramnik's earlier games - he followed a very strong, tactically imaginative style that showcases his talent. Only relatively recently has he played in this extremely strategical, positional manner. Check out this game against Leko from the 2001 Linares:
