Knights <> Bishops

    Hello!

Me and some of my friends have tried different kind of chess game. In initial position we've just placed bishops in knights positions and knights in bishops.

It appears to me that chess as a game didn't loose much. The complexity of the game remains the same, but the whole Opennings Theory goes to the trash.

    Did somebody tried it too?

What do you thing about such modification?

I can say that one of a possible problems could be that "b" and "g" pawns are not guarded.

This makes me thinking about giving back to bishops their original "elephant" nature and allow bishops to move one field in any direction. This will solve the problem of unguarded pawns and also will allow bishops to change their "colors" during the game.

    Let's discuss it...

    got you.

Personally, I don't like the idea of random chess. I think if there is a possible alternative to classic initial position it should be very well checked from all perspectives. Alternative positions must be as good as original one. IMHO, chess960 don't take this into consideration. Unguarded pawns in 524 is a problem. The first thing you should take care of is protecting them. This somewhat limits the game. Probably there are similar problems in other chess960 positions... Are there chess960 positions which are not classic but all pawns are guarded, they are symmetric, balanced, well developing, castle capable etc.?
