FEEL FREE TO ANALYZE THIS GAME TOO:

In Endgames, which is better? A Knight or a Rook? Me and my friend kco were playing a game and we arrived at a position where I exchanged both of my Rooks for his Knight and Bishop. I was left with a King, two Knights, and a few Pawns. He was left with a King, two Rooks, and a few Pawns as well. I lost the game pretty badly, but I want to see your opinions and/or games with similiar situation. Well, here is my loss against kco:

On move  20.Nxd6 I was surprise not to see cxd6 instead you went for Rxd6 why not cxd6 ? so you can keep at least a rook and a knight ?

Well, I heard that a long time Knights are better at Endgames compared to most pieces so I decided to test it out in this game. I guess that statement is false and I will never do that ever again. LOL

Except in very specific situations (like the possibility of a smothered mate) I can't remember ever thinking "I wish this rook was a knight" in an endgame.

17...O-O looks like a mistake.

20...cxd6 would have been better, but I see that you wanted to test out that Knight theory of yours so I don't know what to say about that.

24...c5 allows kco access to the open files.

Oh, and swapping Queens is when you really lost the game.

haha ADK, I find the knight(s) very annoying espeically when they are running around all over the board causing chaos !

Oh yeah, I can't tell you how many times I have been forked with those dreaded Knights. Ironically, they are my favorite pieces in the whole game. : )

Here is some of the comments by the chess.com's analysis

13...Rd8?? better move h4. 14.Qb1 ?? I just want to defend the bishop(b5) better was Ba3.  I made a blunder ? 17.f3?? I just want to deprive of the knight getting to g4. 39...f6 ?? this allow me to promote my pawn. Also is agree with the 20 th move believing is was a mistake better is 20....cxd6

Knights are generally at their worst in endgame.

Well, thank you for the chess.com analysis. I think you were supposed to play 17. Ba3 forcing me to play 17...Rd6 to block your attack instead of 17. f3, no?

Knights are especially bad when you have pawns on both sides of the board, like you did. You want something more long range, like a bishop or rook.

Rooks almost always totally dominate knights in the endgame. The only hope to save the game is with pawns on one side.

I think a pair of rooks is better than a pair of knight ..... as said in a previous post only if there are pawns on one side ... but generally rooks are better than knights in the endgame

At 49! Why didn't you take the queen at G5 w/ your pawn?

AHHH!!!! That was a game changer!!! Oh... and my two cents. In most scenerios two rooks are worth way more than two knights in an endgame. Correct me if I'm wrong though.   And I agree with... someone earlier in the posts, when you traded queens was when it really started to go downhill.
