    Sounds like a sad news to me, maybe he could still stay on the elite level for longer than just 4 years and keep active well into his forties. I definitely hope he does manage to keep his form. It would break my heart to see a real legend leave the scene.

    Wow, very surprised to hear any signs of him retiring. But as i_r_noob pointed out, Ivanchuck literally said he would quit chess not so long ago.

    I guess this is the age where professional chess players step out of their prime? Seems early to me, but then I don't know what it's like to be a ~ 2800 player Smile

    I hope so. But then, his performance wasn't really horrible, he ended with a plus score and well, Chucky is Chucky. Smile

    It's early, Anand and Gelfand are playing for the World Championship next year and they're 41 and 42 :-)
