What is the best way of self-learning?

I started playing chess 3 years ago...Then my rating was about 1100 in blitz games.. I studied from different simulators, i have read different books...today my rating is about 1450-1500..it has been that number fo some time..but thats it.. i feel like there is no more progress..and i feel like i dont have so much enthusiasm like i had before.. maybe someone found himself in a similar situation..?

What books have you read? There's no one "best way" of self-learning, some people learn best by doing, some by reading and some by listening. You need to find out what is your "best way" of learning regardless of the subject for starters. So you may have to skip some chess and read up on learning techniques instead.

In the meantime start doing the Tactics Trainer 2-4x a wk and inbetween start doing whatever else is available here, chess mentor or whatever.

    GOOD LUCK!

lolll..ok.. internet rating.. :) i admit... you are apsolutely right..thats it..so, the diamond membeship, does it worth?

so thanks for answer..ok,so you love playing chess, right? did you ever get into a situation that lasted for several months..in which your concentration was poor..and you struggled?

I dont know anybody who loves to play chess, and dont know of any chess club in my place.. so this is the only source of information about chess I know and rating i have..

maybe its just life.. :) I am at the end of college of law and lately i dont have energy no will for anything.. maybe i just need a vacation... :) but thanks for answer... good luck!

NimzoRoy, I read books from the local library about chess for novice..

but actually game chessmaster grandmaster edition was something i enjoyed the most... :D i know there is no one gold way of learning, so i posed the question so anyone can share their metods and maybe something new i havent tried.. :)  so thanks!on trainer my rating is about 1600..but is it reliable?

Trainer rating? Do you mean Tactics Trainer? IMHO it's reliable enough to indicate if you're improving or in a slump. If you can afford to get a primo membership here you'll have more access to more learning tools Diamond Membership lets you watch unlimited videos is well worth the $ IF you have the time and ambition to watch one a day (on the average), and unlimited Tactics Trainer (but even 25 daily is good and free)

If you can afford to buy a few chess books me and I'm sure others will have many recommendations for you!

The thing that you must ask yourself, what are your weakness that makes you lose chess games? After you identified your weakness, make an effort to address these weakness. For example if there are many chess positions that you have a hard time understanding, try to find a book that will help you understand many chess position. If you have problem with tactics, buy chess tactics books. If you misplayed many endgames buy endgame books.

So you read a chess book for a novice? At this point in time, the knowledge you  acquire  in that books is not really enought to make your reach a new level. You must study new materials..

thanks everyone! :) You have helped me a lot! NimzoRoy, if you know some interesting titles, i am all ears.. :)

jambyvedar, you are also right... most of my mistakes are blunders.. but my endgames are also not so brilliant... thanks again for your time!

I recommend one or more of the following depending on your budget and how much time you have to read 'em. If you can afford to buy 3-4 at once go ahead and read one at a time or more if that works for you.

1000 Checkmates and/or 1000 Winning Combinations both by Fred Reinfeld AND both have an added bonus: they're chock full of errors to really sharpen your tactical skills and problem-solving technique! Also consider more modern combination collections recommended by other players, keeping in mind that some of them have ripped off these two works  (read reviews and ratings of any recommended books, inc mine as well)

Logical Chess Move by Move and/or The Most Instructive Games of Chess Ever Played both by Irving Chernev

Common Sense In Chess by Dr Lasker

Look around for used copies at eBay an Amazon GOOD LUCK!

In order to improve your rating you will have to build into your mind 5 visualization pattern memory banks: 1, basic checkmate (k+q v k, k+r v k, k+2bs v k, k+b+n v k) visualization pattern memory bank 2. Tactics visualization patern memory bank 3. Endgame technique visualization pattern memory bank 4. Opening repertoire visualization pattern memory bank 5. Middle game visualization pattern memory bank If you would likzzke
