Did chess ruin or improved life or us?

Did we all turn into chess addicts?

Chess and Chess.com has done good for me, and some bad. The bad things are when my grades became slipping. The good thing after the addiction, I am alot mature. Chess now has improved life for me.

chess is and always has been a force for good in my life

as for addiction to chess. I think it is only an addiction when it starts to affect your participation in other more important parts of your life.

That's a good question and to me I think it's an improvement, though it kills a lot of precious time. But you are really starting a lot of topics now...

Some quotes that fit~

By some ardent enthusiasts, chess has been elevated into a science or an art. It is neither; but its principal characteristic seems to be what human nature most delights in - a fight -Emanuel Lasker

Chess is a beautiful mistress to whom we keep coming back, no matter how many times she rejects us." – Bent Larsen

"Chess is not a game but a disease." – Sir Henry Campbell-Bannerman

"Chess is as elaborate a waste of human intelligence as you can find outside an advertising agency." – Raymond Chandler

Chess is a foolish expedient for making idle people believe they are doing something very clever when they are only wasting their time. - George Bernard Shaw.

Personaly I think its a hobby; and I don't build models, quilt, or bird watch.

That came from an article in Chess Life titled "On Good and Evil Chess". It was supposed to be a parody of something by Nietzsche and contained such things as "Develop your Bishops. At the same time. Every day." and "Try to check your opponent. If he sees through this, kick him." It was from back in the 1980s, I think.

Good luck, but I don't think you're going to find it. It's a magazine article from the 1980s.

One of my favorite quotes----> The champion referred to chess as a playground on which the intellect may acquire useful habits of lasting benefit.

                                         Emanuel Lasker

One more here------> Chess is the instructor of youth, the comfort of middle age, and the delight of old age.  But let chess occupy its proper place, for I have known fortunes lost by too much time devoted to it. Chess affords amusement, pleasure, solace and instruction; but it is not the business of life

                              Alderman Thomas Avery
