will the new live chess feature be geared to blitz players or will there be some flexability in the timing? for instance.... say 10, 20 or 30 minutes per move? i'd like to hear other peoples thoughts on this

I thought live chess was starting up here today?  Has it?  If not, when? I for one like blitz ( 5 0) but  I know not everyone does. I wish members here had live chat. I talk frequently to my sons here and its cumbersome to have to use messages or notes or always be playing a game.

erik said earlier today that it was only a matter of hours from launching. i expect it will begin any time now, barring some technical problem

It's amazing how he has us all on pins and needles. I don't think I even have much time today to play... but i keep coming back to see if it has "launched".

My wife is getting suspicious, cuz every 30 minutes i'm saying "Uh.. i gotta go check something... be right back."

I'm off in a cloud of smoke with her calling something to me that sounds suspiciously like "No chess!!!"

After some bad experiences with WCN and them not living up to their promises, I would now even be happy if they launched it in two weeks Smile

But one can expect more from Chess.com than from WCN right? We want LIVE Chess at 2:00 pm, not a minute later! Tongue out

For the time controls: I like both blitz and bullet chess. Bullet chess is good for fun, and blitz chess can be good for decent games. I don't play games longer than, say, 10 minutes each, since I'm not motivated enough to keep concentrated for that long for a game that only counts for a virtual rating.

Time is one of the biggest factor in the tourneys =-p  I love turn-based, but I also very very much like live (20-40 minutes per side).

well i think if you had 20 or 30 min to make a move it wouldnt be like a blitz game, i dont mind 1 day per move games, i like having time to think several moves ahead, i think this is still possible in a timed match. i'll never play blitz, it just doesnt appeal to me, but i think theres room between blitz and 1 move per day for timed matches

More than 3 min/move is very slow in live chess . Fischer and Spassky played 40 moves in 2.5 hours at WC level. Increments are now popular in fide play with one popular time control being G/90 min but with a 30 sec increment from move 1.

I like playing 5/3. Which is 5 minutes and 3 extra seconds for every move. That is probably my favorite time control. Longer is also fine as well, since it usually means a better overall game for both players.

Blitz has turned chess into Super Checkers, you are absolutely correct.

20-30 minutes to make each move?? Yeah, only if you want to stay awake for 4 days playing chess. I suppose they could implement a "sleep mode" or you could use the vacation feature everytime you want to sleep.

Timed games are a lot of fun for OTB chess, I don't like fast games myself, but don't mind 40/120 or those sort of time controls. So I welcome live chess to this site.
