Sometimes it's nice to sit across a "real" board from someone. Does anyone know the "local" chess clubs available in the Pacific NW? I'm from Eugene and the only club I know of is at the U of O.

I think real chess clubs have suffered a huge decline due to the internet and strong cheap, chess programs.

I fly back to the states 1-May and I'm home for a week. I'll try to be there on 4-May. I'll bring my board and clock.

You'll get much better games at the UofO club, but some variety is nice, which is the best reason for visiting corvallis.

You might be be interested in the Oregon State University Chess Club. They're relatively new (& separate from the Old World Deli people). Membership is free & anyone can join. Currently they meet Tuesdays at 4 PM at the Memorial Union on the OSU campus. You can check them out here:  http://people.oregonstate.edu/studentgroups/chess/about/

Cheers,

Landon

Nothing like having a flesh and blood human on the other side of the board.  Everything else pales by comparison.  Playing against a computer is close to cybersex, not very fulfilling.
