Do you think that you might too often have resigned games where you actually had the chance for a draw? I think it happens quite a lot, because a situation might look hopeless at first glance, but after working on it for a while, you can get a stalemate or a perpetual or similar. Sometimes you resign before even realizing that ... That means we might "deserve" higher ratings! ;)

I think the opposite is the case.  Many games end in a player looking for a draw in a lost position.

If a player resigns, he deserves the loss.  If he thinks he should resign, but plays on, hoping for a stalemate, he deserves two losses.Tongue out

I don't agree. Sure, if the game is obviously lost, one should resign, but I'm not an advocate of the resign-to-show-polite-respect-to-your-superior-line. To achieve a draw out of a tough position is a skill in itself, and as it robs the opponent of his/her assumed victory, it is at least half the point of the game. If a draw can be achieved, the opponent did not deserve the win, since the attack must have been sloppy and flawed. A win by resignation is particularly not deserved if it is granted just because a player does not want to bother or annoy the opponent by a long game that would eventually lead to draw.

Wins are deserved by winning, not as gifts for good play so far.
