A somewhat hilarious notion popped into my head today and I wanted to share it with you all.

Wouldn't it be just grand if a top 10 player showed up to play in disguise at a simul of one of his peers and gave the old chap a good run for his money or even beat him? I don't know. This all may sound ridiculous, but I know if I were of champion-ish status, I'd definitely do something like this. It'd provide a hearty, nervous laugh for the host, that's for sure.

Or, has this ever actually happened? Or anything of the sort? Let's have a thread about this and/or other "Chess pranks."

Reuben Fine showed up in disguise to one of his friend Horowitz's simuls.

Aww, thanks goldendog. I'm sad to hear that "my" idea wasn't original, but also happy to know that someone actually did it. haha. Any other known cases?

I guess internationalist alludes to his participation in foreign tournaments, not just national ones. It was much rarer for a master to have played abroad than it is now.

Yeah, it was much rarer for someone to leave their birth-area their entire life back then too even. lol
