I didn't see the live game of Magnus versus the world, but I did review the match & I'm wondering if the world resigned.  There were still places for the king to move to, it might have been a losing battle but there were still options.  Somebody enlighten me

There was no way to stop magnus from queening his pawn.  The game was played out longer than it needed to be just to show off the tactic at the end I think.

Actually there was no way the world would beat Magnus. With his skills and he knows his own ideas alone while the world is divided now real chance for a win in my opinion.

Almost any titled player will easily beat a large Vote Chess group, especially if the game is open to everyone and publicized well ahead of time.

The problem is that even though the "world" can discuss moves and compare notes, most players don't participate in this, particularly weaker players.  They get the "alert" that they are on move, go to the position, look at it and make the first plausible move they see.  So the consultation is of no use to them, and they outnumber the stronger players discussing it.

Even those who do read some comments will often just read those first few posted right after the alert and, if they are going to take any advice at all, get it from those - even though it may be touting an awful move which will soon be pointed out, but by then it is too late, their vote is already cast.
