Today the 17th melody Amber tournament will start.
It is named after the daughters of sponsor, word champion correspondence chess and IT billionaire Joop van Oosterom.
The format is very interesting, they play both rapid and blindfolded games.
More info can be found here and the main site will provide live coverage

Just for my own education, can someone explain to me why white would resign in this situation? Thanks!
The threat of mate in one on h1 is not possible to parry:
If White decides on 44. Bxf3 gxf3 then still, while white is a queen and a bishop up and has another pawn on the verge of queening, he is unable to parry the threat of Rh1 checkmate.
A stunning picture.
I totally forgot about this game, thanks for reminding me.

RIP Amber Chess Tournament.
Thanks! You would have thought I'd seen that.... but maybe that explains my play somewhat :-).
