One of my New Year's resolutions was to spend more time working on my game. I made some advances but have reached another plateau. It has to do with my opening game. I end up losing tempo and material. Sometimes my improvements in the middle and end game help me, but other times I go down in flames. This leads to inconsistant game play. However, I have been studying the opening and middle games more and will hopefully get better.

This is one of the reasons I have not posted as much as I used to: I'm using my time to play more chess. I have been analyzing my opponent's games prior to tournament matches and, even at my novice level, it has helped immensely. The thing that keeps me coming back to chess is the complexity of the game and the simple fact that you get back what you put into it. Happy New Year everyone!
