what other great master deserves to be put aside these titans. give me a choice and 1 reason. I would say Tal because he is the only Master who beat Fischer in overall matches 1 on 1 when Fischer went to Russia and laid waste to the great Russian monolith. (see Mark Taimanov "I was Fischer's Victim")
Kasparov and Carlsen...
Erik Everhard and uhmmm yes Ron Jeremy
oops i almost forgot Nacho Vidal.
I guess it depends on why you are selecting these 3 guys in particular. Capa and Fischer both had a real direct, clean style. All 3 were endgame experts. So stylistically I'd throw someone like Tarrasch in that mix.
In terms of sheer talent, you could lump in Alekhine, Lasker, Tal, Smyslov maybe...
In terms of dominance for an era, Kasparov is indeed a name that comes to mind - synonymous with chess for a long time, including the famous Deep Blue matches.
Steinitz was nearly as dominant in his time.
Emmanuel Lasker.. 27 years as world champion and with the highest winning procent, 66%
My big five is Alekhine, Capa, Tal, Fischer and Kasparov. There is nothing more you need to learn that these five cannot show you.
I have great respect for Morphy but would have loved to see him play for longer. His end game was better than the rubbish that Zukertort played in 1886. Carlsen is still too young for a decision on him. I have high hopes.
Emanuel Lasker of course and Garry kasparov.
Alekhine is the first to come to mind.
Both Nacho Vidal and Ron Jeremy can beat him.
and Mikhail Tal, the man of combinations!
My favorite players at the moment are
5.Anatoly Karpov(Altough im not very positional player)
