What bothers me the most is people who ask me what I hate most about chess.  Laughing

AlanL, your second-last argument would suggest you are a hypocrite, and you don't resign yourself in those positions.

I think you have some issues, bro'.

It does annoy me when people play obviously bad openings and win regardless.

Aside from the last item on your list, which seems rather rude, there is nothing illegal or unsporstmanlike about any of those actions. You may not like it, but your opponent is obliged to follow the rules, not make you happy

I found that funny aswell, in his 6th point he actually admits to doing the first.

Explain.  I don't see the inconsistency.

Point 1: I hate people that refuse to resign in hopeless positions.

Point 6: I hate when I'm in a hopeless position and he doesn't speed up.

You don't see the irony in that?

You don't see an inconsistency.... it's not "inconsistency", it's a direct contradiction.

If you had said: "refusing to resign in a hopeless position.... unless he has just noticed that the position is hopeless and is politely allowing me to checkmate him.", then it wouldn't be hypocrisy.

    I smell a troll.

    And whose fault is that?

I see a certain logic to his argument, except I don't understand the circuitous argument of [comment deleted].  Otherwise I'm [comment double deleted and sent to Homeland Security].

Following the letter of the law is not the same thing as being sportsmanlike.  If it were, there'd be no need for the concept of unsportsmanlike behaviour in the first place.  There'd be cheating, and sporting play and that's it.

Surely should really be "gamesmanlike" rather than "sportsmanlike"? Just thought, it's interesting how "gamesmanship" means almost the opposite of "sportsmanship". Is there a subtle message here about mental and physical contests?

[I am also reminded of some wonderfully funny books on the subject by Stephen Potter . ]

I remember feeling that it should be possible to refute this P-K3 defense when I was young (eg 2. e5!? Smile), and not having a huge amount of success. I wonder what happened to my friend Melvyn Leech, who played it so annoyingly?

Oh I do hate this opening in 1 min! Although im up, I always fall into all sort of unhelpful positional traps/falls, losing my advantage bit by bit until I don't know what to do! Its a shame at my level, 2000 rating :( lol
