So who is the most famous chess player who ever gave you a game either formally or informally? A friend of mine used to live below GM Ron W Henley in a house owned by him so I got a few informal games against him years ago (lost them all, naturally). Henley is sparring partner, coach and second to Anatoly Karpov as well as promoter to women's GM Irina Krush among many other things, so that's my big brush with chess fame.
When I used to play on ICC, I used to play the Schroeder simul each week it was held. He pretty much beat me each time except for one occasion where he blundered a rook away and then I was able to gain an additional knight as a result of the blunder so he resigned since I was ahead 2 pieces.
I was lucky in that game because he was getting into time trouble with the other games in the simul so that is probably why he blundered the rook cause I was not doing well until that point and pretty much was getting ready to resign when he blundered it away.
In terms of over the board chess, It would have to be IM Blas Lugo who owns a chess club here in Miami.
GMs Art Bisguier and Larry Christiansen.
As a kid i played a few GM's in simuls:
GM Jan Timman
GM Paul van der Sterren
GM Genna Sosonko
I had a pair of correspondence games against International Correspondence Chess Master (ICCM) Ronald Weyerstrass.
I've played all the grandmasters. Yes, I played them on a computer and yes they were on Chessmaster 9000. I lost to them all.
No, i have never played someone famous
