Music Clips special to you...

I wondered about the many people sharing our common fondness for chess, and find all too often those same people write very little about themselves! So perhaps we can attach just one music clip that has special significance for us?

I have a great affinity for music that is really before my time, the era of the late 50's through to early 70's, but once in a while something comes which strikes a chord...

Here is my offering and I hope a few others take part:

The first song that really got me into music; most probably from the best post-rock album as of yet.

Opeth are the best metal band I've ever heard; blackwater park is one of the all time greatest albums in my opinion. In a similar vein I feel envy ought to be mentioned:

A really emotional album for me, I'll always find myself stopping whatever I'm doing to listen to it if it comes on during a shuffle. I'll probably end up switching to listen to the whole album.

Wow...checked out the music above and wonder if my ancient contribution even qualifies as 'music' anymore.

I am he as you are he as you are me and we are all together.
See how they run like pigs from a gun, see how they fly.
    I'm crying.

Sitting on a cornflake, waiting for the van to come.
    Corporation tee-shirt, stupid bloody Tuesday.
Man, you been a naughty boy, you let your face grow long.
I am the eggman (woo), they are the eggmen (woo), I am the walrus,
    Coo coo, kachoo.

    Mister City P'liceman sitting
Pretty little policemen in a row.
See how they fly like Lucy in the Sky, see how they run.
    I'm crying.
    I'm cry, I'm crying, I'm cry, I'm crying.

Yellow matter custard, dripping from a dead dog's eye.
    Crabalocker fishwife, pornographic priestess,
Boy, you been a naughty girl and you let your knickers down.
I am the eggman (woo), they are the eggmen (woo), I am the walrus,
    Coo coo, kachoo.

Sitting in an English garden waiting for the sun.
If the sun don't come, you get a tan from
    Standing in the English rain.
I am the eggman, they are the eggmen, I am the walrus,
Coo coo kachoo ka coo coo kachoo.

    Expert texpert choking smokers,
Don't you think the joker laughs at you? (ho ho ho, he he he, ha ha ha)
See how they smile like pigs in a sty, see how they snide.
    I'm crying.

Semolina Pilchard, climbing up the Eiffel Tower.
    Elementary penguin singing Hare Krishna.
Man, you should have seen them kicking Edgar Allan Poe.
I am the eggman, they are the eggmen, I am the walrus,
Coo coo kachoo ka coo coo kachoo
    (rhythmical speaking along with juba's).
Juba juba juba, juba, juba, juba, juba, juba, juba juba. Juba juba.....

Yeah I love Opeth, Orchid is my favoirte album though. Twilight is my robe is classic.

When I play chess I mostly enjoy ISIS. It's more instrumental.
But music clips SPECIAL to me.. well. It'd have to be something from A Perfect Circle. Passive. I'm always finding new music but APC opened up a new musical era to me. After that I found Tool, ISIS, Opeth, Cult of Luna. Bands I still love most.

Here's one from ISIS I'd like to share,

    Artist: Pedro the Lion

    Song: Penetration

Unfortunately, this is the only video I could find of it.  There's a kid playing along on electronic drums, but it actually doesn't change the sound much, just makes the drums a touch louder.  It still sounds great.  Enjoy!

    Lyrics:

Have you ever seen an idealist with grey hairs on his head?
Or successful men who keep in touch with unsuccessful friends?
    You only think you did
And I could have sworn I saw it too
    But as it turns out
It was just a clever ad for cigarettes

'Cause if it isn't making dollars
    Then it isn't making sense
    If you aren't moving units
Then you're not worth the expense
If you really want to make it
    You had best remember this:
    If it isn't penetration
Then it isn't worth the kiss

    And we're so sorry sir
But you did not quite make the cut this time
And we'd appreciate it if you cleared your stuff on out by five
    Don't take it personal
Everyone knows you did your best
    If it makes it easier
You should look at it from our perspective

'Cause if it isn't making dollars
    Then it isn't making sense
    If you aren't moving units
Then you're not worth the expense
If you really want to make it
    You had best remember this:
    If it isn't penetration
Then it isn't worth the kiss

    My contribution:

It is an absolute classic, maybe even a bit of a cliché, but it remains a brilliant song. I remember the first time I heard it, goosebumps all over, especially at the end part!

I heard something about Skinny Puppy playing with Chevelle around here recently.  I'm not sure of the validity of it, since that seems a pretty odd match.

Some of my favourite songs: Courtney Love's "mono" (2004), John Lennon's "how do you sleep", Lennon and (songwriter) Yoko Ono's "woman is the nigger of the world", Madonna's "Words", "American Life", "Why's It So Hard", "In This Life", ...,

Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Joan Baez, Pete Seeger,

John McLaughlin's non-fusion work and other good jazzrock from the late-60s-to-mid-80s,

Jethro Tull (songs till 1980 only), Deep Purple (Mark II only),  The Rolling Stones (the more radical songs only),

    Karen Carpenter,

RATM (sp. Battle of Los Angeles), ...

Shakira - songs *before* Laundry service, mainly - specially "Octavo Dia".

    Traffic,

    Freddie Mercury!
