My Chess Game From Hell

Don't get me wrong here I love chess, but did you ever play a chess game that made you wish you never picked up the game in the first place? Well, I'm playing one right now that qualifies. It's a game I'm playing for a team I belong to. All the other 200 or so participants have finished their matches. But I'm still stuck in the first game with a player who after 96 moves and after his team has handily beat our squad is not willing to cede a draw even though there has not been a piece captured since the 56th move. We've been going around in circles for 40 moves. I've offered a draw several times to no avail. I suppose he feels that because he has a rook against a knight that he should win this - but our pawns are lodged on h4 & h5 and my knight threatens to capture his pawn should his king stray. Either way I keep waiting for a coup de grace.

You can't comment on an ongoing game....

Listen, this game has been ongoing for almost a year. It's outcome will not affect in any way shape or form the match between teams. Since the opposing team is leading 73 to 28 - I don't think anyone's going to mind.

^ the game still affects ratings however.

We can't comment on the game, but as an abstract comment I will mention that you can claim a draw after 50 moves with no captures or pawn moves...

For me it's not about the ratings it's about the game and what I can learn from it. This game has been going nowhere the last 40 moves. My life will not change whether my chess rating goes up or down 20 points - does yours?

Thanks Nytik, I'm counting down the moves. Appreciated.

My point was this: suppose somebody did point out a win a forced for white or black. Since you think this position is a draw, then such analysis (if correct) could alter the course of the game, and thus affect the ratings.

This is why people do not, and should not comment on games in progress.

Just to prove my point even further:

This position 8/8/6k1/r6p/7P/5NK1/8/8 b - - 0 1   (which is a position not very unlike yours) is according to shredder [[ http://www.shredderchess.com/online-chess/online-databases/endgame-database.html ]] is a win for black in 23 or a win for black in 27, if white is to move.

Now suppose your openant sees this thread and my comment.... perhaps you would have cheated yourself out of a draw.

At the risk of getting in trouble, lets make this hyperthetical even more realistic: After 79. Kh6 Black had a forced win in 33 moves.

...If only you posted this thread a few weeks/months ago, I could have significantly affected the outcome of the game.

Methinks, you are playing the devil's advocate.

Im not playing mind games here. I am simply trying to demonstrate why we should not comment on games in progress. Your openant agreed to play a game against you, not a game against you, me, and the rest of chess.com.

I did not ask for advice in the game. I'm simply stating my displeasure with a game that I am playing. You are the one that is getting involved by posting this position. By the way it's opponent.

Why do idiots bring up such totally irrelevant facts? Well done for knowing that we cannot give advice on an on going game. But since the OP doesn't want advice, your point is absolutely worthless, and most likely aimed at causing trouble.

I see that the original intent of this post has been miscontrued. Let me reiterate. I did not post it so that the rest of Chess.com could give me advice. I was simply commenting on an aspect of CC that can become tedious at times especially when one's opponent does not accept the probable outcome of a game. I was aware of the 50 move rule and that suggestion by a poster has not in any way affected the outcome. If one's commenting on a game that they are playing, without going into specifics and/or soliciting advice, is looked down upon I will in future refrain from doing so. Thanks.
