If I had to interview a Gm for only 5 minutes, what would I asks?
My questions would be:
1. Why do you play chess and what attracted you to the game?
2. How does your partner feel about you playing chess?
2. When does the opening really end and moving to the middle game?
3. When are we precisely entering the end game?
4. How many chess moves do you analyze ahead and how many at the most can you analyze.
What would be your questions say about 5 if you had to interview a GM?
Let's get your opinion!
5. How much time do you spend studying chess
6. What is the way you do this
7. Do you enjoy games against the computer
How much longer are you going to play chess, and how long do you think chess will be viable to play at the top level?
I would ask:
5. Who was your favorite chess player and what did you learn from their games?
1.how do u pratice your game?
2.do u have a friend with whom u play for pleasure? and if so how often do u get beat?
3.who introduced u to chess?
4.do u drink or use drugs or smoke herb? when you are not playing of course.
5.who is one player that u admire at present time?
6.would u play a game with me? but u must play without your knights, your bishops, and without your queen and all your remaining pieces giving off 220 volt discharges at the touch....and i play with rubber gloves.
7.what is your favorite openings and can u be my teacher?
8.do u think chess should be used to resolve world conflicts instead of war?
9.what is your favorite food?
10. how many hours do u sleep each day?
Are you married
I would ask how to think strategically, not tactical (like you are out of matrix:)
Another question I would ask is:
What other games do you enjoy? Do you play backgammon or Cribbage? Do you like card games or games of chance?
Can you please make use of this time to give me the advice which will improve my game the most; like the others, I'm to dim to ask the right questions.
I think a better way to phrase #4 might be "How many candidate moves do you typically analyze for a given position"
"Honestly, to what degree do you play your opponent rather than the position?" :P I imagine GM's are all guilty of being scared of 'names'.
Why don't you ask vbhat?
ha! that is a wonderful question.
And I would ask for a game.
Okay so...
Train A is travelling east at 50km/h. Along the way the train takes a short cut and manages to cut 70km off the route. For the first hour the train is travelling into the wind, which is blowing W.N.W. at 20km/h. Along the way the train stops for 1/2hr to watch SportsCentre.
Train B is travelling east at 60km/h, but leaves 1/2 hr after the first train AND the conductor stops to pick up a 2-4, only 5 minutes after leaving, which takes 10 mins. It takes him an additional 10 minutes to consume said 2-4. The last three hours the train is travelling into the wind, blowing directly west at 55km/h.
Both start from the same location, Montréal, 1000km away from its final destination. Who makes it to Newfoundland first?
He would be the interviewer and not the interviewee, as he might want to ask questions that at his level a stronger GM may decline to answer, for not giving him an edge.
But as the post grows I will seriously consider your suggestion and ask him what he thinks about the answers and what would be his 5 questions.
Thank you
1. What do you regret most in your life that you had to sacrifice to become a GM?
2. Was it worth it?
3. Did you cheat to get where you are today?
4. Is the title of GM becoming cheapened by there being so many GMs around?
5. Which game did you enjoy the most & why?
Other questions could be:
1.Can you make a decent living playing chess.
2. Do you meet and attract people from the other gender.
3.What is the best book you have written and why?
4.What are your ither interests in life?
5. What does chess bring to you?
Always 5 questions max.
i like those questions!
