My second win against a Class A Player

Hi. I'm a class B player (and have been for more than a year). This is only my second win ever versus a Class A player. My first one is here if you are interested.

This is an interesting game from a strategic perspective. I willingly went into a Bishops of opposite color middlegame with the hopes of domination on the light squares. I was able to keep black passive while my position kept improving. I was happy because I continued making threats most of the game and eventually my opponent finally made an inferior move on 29. By move 36 I had a forced mate.

I dont think the 2 are related in any way. For example, my rating on here is lower than my USCF rating because I don't finish most of my games.  A player in our club is about a 1250 rated player but his rating on here is almost 1800, because he takes all of his correspondence games very seriously.

Very nicely done!  After Nd4, your play seems quite good.  You are correct it was better to just 0-0-0, or even g4, instead - notice you weren't able to keep the Bishop pair anyway, and just gave him some time to finish developing.

But after that your play is enterprising and positionally sound, and you should be proud of the effort.

No, there is no way to relate ratings between Chess.com, USCF, or in fact any other rating system.  They use different methods of calculating, rate different sorts of games (USCF has separate ratings for rapid, regular OTB, and correspondence), and are composed of different pools of players.

Even the same method under the same outfit only measures your performance against the specific pool of players you've played.  The more games you've played against the more players, and the more games the opponents have each played, the more accurate the rating.

The best thing is not to worry about it at all, anyway.  My first coach used to laugh about it:  "Rating?  You think about your rating?  Forget your rating, learn the game, play your best - your rating will take care of itself.  And guess what?  When you earn a high rating, it gets you exactly nothing!"

Are there enough Experts and Masters close by so you can score some victories and hit Expert soon, or will you need to travel?

Travel will help, but a mere 280 miles will do. However, there has grown to be such an abundance of A Class player in the past year, that simply survining among that pack may propel me into the expert class. Most of them are young, and I'm the crafty old guy.

With all of those young A Class players, the crafty old guy will make Expert soon. Smile
