i've been playing chess since i was 11 years old.  But i stopped playing when i was in college.  i only resumed playing when i discovered chess.com.  i was of the "old school", if you could say that.  meaning, i was more familiar with openings like Roy Lopez, Sicilian Defense, Queen's Gambit, etc.  Browsing with articles featured here, I observed that a lot of players are mentioning new names of openings and I am amazed with their familiarity with these new and modern chess plays.  I also want to learn these things, more so, openings.  could somebody help me where can i find these things ? thanks a lot.

You know, there is a reason why google is no. 1 web site on internet.

And there is a reason why chess.com is no. 1 chess site on internet.

To show you where to find them, or explain them to you?

Traditionally players bought "Chess Informant" (a sort of chess digest published a few times a year), not cheap but crammed with the latest games by the top players, pointing out the theoretical novelties as a matter of course:

They are particularly dry/analytical publications, so make sure you see an old copy before you purchase, to ensure suitability.

it would be greatly appreciated RainbowRising if you could direct me to the site and thanks PrawnEastPrawn for the information.  Its an honor to be connected with chess.com for having players who are so helpful.  thanks again "kasama", that's a Filipino term for fellow-players/comrades/friends.

Well, im not sure how much access you get to the opening explorer as a free member:  http://www.chess.com/explorer/index.html

There really are loads of sites you can use. Youtube has a lot of videos on opening basics, and wikipedia even has some traps for a lot of openings :P

Google-ing a particular opening will bring up lots of sites too - I believe one of the best is chesscafe.com . You may also want to check out chessgames.com, because I believe the best way to learn an opening is to play it frequently and to watch masters and high rated players playing it.

    Hope this helps!
