Personally, I do not do well at tactics trainer for the same reason I'm not good at blitz chess...  I hate chess under pressure.  I like to have 2 hours to stare at a board and go through lines in my head.  I don't like watching a seconds clock count down while I try to maintain concentration on the board.  My two cents.

It's traditionally a day for resting and taking it "easy". (Oops! I just said the E-word).

The only puzzles that are easy, are the ones that require mate in 1... Smile

I just posted a comment on "Bothersome Queen" which I believe is somehow related to this thread, and I am taking the liberty to post it here again.

1. Can the daily puzzles be rated as beginners, advanced beginners or advanced players?

2. Can the daily puzzles be numbered accordingly and its answers posted the following day, so that the "first page finishers" can post their answers and truly claim that they indeed solved the puzzle?

3. Can an analysis board be included in the daily puzzle?

Thanks!

Easy!

translation - I am soooo much better than you.

translation - It took me hours to solve it but you don't know that.

translation - I couldn't solve the puzzle but I know how to annoy you.

Personally I am very impressed when I come across the word "Easy" in reference to the daily puzzle. It makes me admire the person who wrote it. I begin to look up to them as a god or at least a demi-god of chess. I begin to frequent their home page, wondering if I should message them and beg them to be my mentor, my teacher, my master. Oh! That I might study under them.

Easier said than done for people who are endowed with "innate chess talent" or braggadocios! Take your pick! (lol)

"Easy"...

That seems to be the standard response to daily puzzles. More often then not, people responding with that have really low ratings.. I don't understand. If it was so easy, why is your rating 1100?

Perhaps, I'm bitter because I suck at puzzles.

couldn't agree more.

they start really easy on Sundays and get progressively harder through the week (that is the theory anyway).

Perhaps people answering easy should comment and I doubt they meant what you said unless the puzzle is 3 moves or more.

Ther should be 2 categories for puzzles:

1. In 2 moves or less

2. 3 moves or more

Maybe a 4th category over 5 or 6 moves as I could only solve one.

What do you think?

I really get annoyed by people who posts "1", "First", or worst of all "FIRST, THAT WAS EASY". who are you racing ppl? even though you never figured it out you WILL post FIRST. geez, what is with you? I'm cool by the way =P lol

You should look at their tactics ratings. For example, there's about a 500-point discrepancy between my tactics rating and live chess rating (at long time controls). And both of these ratings are stable, not provisional ratings.

Big difference from solving a puzzle one move at a time with the computer telling you when you're on the right track, and solving it in your head before trying it.

I consider a puzzle easy if a bumbling fool like myself can solve it in my head by looking for the best sequence of moves.

I never miss the daily puzzle, it's fantastic.

When I need more, or more difficult ones, www.chessproblems.com is where it is at. No membership required. Although you have to find the good puzzles from the stupid/unlikely ones.
