Is this part of being a real chess player? The constant whining....."That guy won't talk to me!"...."That guy won't resign even though I'm CLEARLY in a dominating position!"...."We need a sportsman meter so that I won't have to play anybody that might possibly annoy me or hurt my feelings!" I mean, c'mon peeps! It's an online GAME! This obsession with manners and sportsmanship is soooo hypocritical. A person who gets completely bent over somebody else's bad manners doesn't have good manner him/herself. A person who constantly whines about bad sportsmanship (especially their opponents refusal to resign as early as possible) is a bad sportsman.
There. Now I feel better

i get what you're saying--totally. although it seems silly to me not to say hello, it's just as silly to get offended by that--maybe even more. to each his own. as i've said, i love when people don't say hello so i can talk 5hit to them about how big of an a55hole they are. ultimately i couldn't care less but it's fun to get in someone's head.

Meta-whining.

Manners, and what constitutes them, are highly variable from culture to culture, region to region. Of course, rude is usually easy to spot.

Hey it's a forum. I see the topic, I post my views. I correct others when they are wrong, and learn when others correct me. I enjoy disscusion, and boarderling arguing, and there are many who can do that here. Maybe to you it's whining, but for me it's just arguing my points.
For the record, I don't annoyed when someone doesn't say hi. I just look down on them.

Thanks for that post! About time! Let's play chess.

I say hello, good luck and at the end: good game and thanks. If they don't respond, that's fine. In the time I've been here which is nearly since the beginning of the site, I have seen a great deal writing on this topic. I say more chess less chatter. Of course, all I do is play chess when not playing my guitar. With nearly 600,000 members, you're bound to get a cross section of people ranging from charming to down right rude.

haha I agree with the original post. I particularly appreciate the irony of the complaint :)
