I have a problem with someone I play in person. He thinks that when you castle, you move the king next to the rook and then move the rook to the other side. He also does it through check and out of check. He doesn't know what en passant is, so I think if I use it he'll think I'm cheating. Another problem is that he thinks when your pawn promotes, you have to get it back to your side of the board before it can be used.
I always forget to bring these problems up before playing him, and I know him well enough that bringing it up during the game is just going to turn into an argument. I know where to find rules for castling and en passant, but does anyone know where to find rules that specifically say that a promoted pawn is active as soon as the new piece enters?

how bout showing him this site at the rules and basics section?
He doesn't have a computer.

Run off a copy of the FIDE laws of chess.
Where do u play him at?
We play at his house. I'll bet tons of money that FIDE has a website, so I'll look there.
if you have an ipad or laptop, you could use that to show him chess.com.
No, I don't have either. I think I will just print these rules. Pretty long, though.
You should highlight the parts you want to show to him.
That's a good idea. I won't print off all of the crap about player conduct, rules for tournaments, etc. Sort of pointless to show him.
It was really annoying losing my mate next turn because he castled out of check. Then I ended up losing. At least now I will have the rules with me and remember to show him before hand, instead of encountering one of his memory problems.

Tell him you wrestle velociraptors and he should comply.

With tons of competent players online 24/7 it's unfortunate that you guys like to play. Hopefully he learns the rules, or else (if I were you) you may not want to play him anymore.
He's an older family member of mine.
Oh, ok :)

Block him
I don't understand. It's OTB, not on chess.com. I can't put ear plugs and blindfolds on everytime I see him.
You must really be into velociraptor wrestlers.
When you block him, he'll be able to see you, but not talk to you. Contact help & support. Report him. Chess.com will supply duct tape.
