Why do people with rateings twice the size of others try to get in tournaments & group matches for the little guys.
I admin a group for under 1400 & have some team matches set up for players rated 1200 & under
and another for players rated 1300 & under...the other group as let a player rated well over 1500 regester for the both matches.
Can anything be done about it..apart from me not locking my team ??

Thank you for questioning that. I hope you get an answer.

I'm battling a Goliath in one of the tourneys and have the same questions.
I Think the server should look at all tournaments & matches b4 thay are allowed to start.

I do not know if there is a filter when you sign up for a tournament or not. I do know when the tournament starts that your rating is based on when you signed up for the tournament not what your current rating may be. If a player is new to the site his/her ratings can change dramatically with just a few wins.
The more games you play, the less dramatically your rating changes. I know there is a tab to set the number of games a player has completed on chess.com when you set up your tournament. You could set that at say 20 or 25 games and that way you wouldn't get a new player in your tournament that might be much better than his rating states.
Ok thanks for that

There's also the issue that any player specifically invited to a tournament is allowed to register in spite of the rating requirements.

He must just want an easy win.

Per the tournament rules you can join a tournament if you've finished 5 games.
Anyway I'm surprised chess.com doesn't have an "automatic kick out" system like on other websites.
I personally don't care as I try to play high-rated players, but it's unfair for those who want a nice game...

I Think the server should look at all tournaments ... b4 thay are allowed to start.
Previously the players outside the range would be dropped and the tournament would start with less players than the tournament director set. Perhaps with the enhancement of going back into registration it would work better.

The 5 games completed restriction applies to non-premium members in official tournaments.
There is a 5 games completed default in member-created tournaments that can be changed to any number from 0 to 255.

I think he's talking about team matches not tournaments. All that can be done is not to lock your team and tell the opposing admin to remove the over-rated guys before he locks his/her team.
