This would most likely be a royal pain to make, but if it's not:

I'd like to have a board for playing other members on which the starting positions can be manipulated.  If possible, there could be an option similar to the 'I play as: random' for the automatic randomization of the back rank(so challenged players would know that it truly is random, rather than an order chosen by the challenging player presented as random).  This would allow us to play Fischer Random, games at odds, and play from certain points in other games.  It would also be useful for tactics, strategies, and endgame studies with an online coach or friend.  I think this would further the appeal of chess.com, as I don't know of a site that offers this.  Perhaps it could be a premium feature, that way all the hard work wouldn't be for naught.  Obviously, such games should not be factored into the player ratings, so changing the setup would auto-choose 'unrated.'

I don't know if this is a feasible addition to the site, but would like to hear from the team on that issue.  I'd also like to hear what you other members think of having this option available.

Thanks,

Paul

To each their own.  Even better if it had its own site because I'm really not interested in variants.  Apart from that, it would be a programming nightmare for somebody.

Yeah, we probably should keep things as specific as possible.  It's usually not a good business idea to broaden your appeal while not doing anything to alienate your current clientele.

That's cool.  I was unaware.  I don't much like playing Fischer Random.  I mainly want to be able to play from constructed positions for learning purposes.  I threw in Fischer Random, since it seems to go hand-in-hand with a customizable starting position.  An interactive analysis board that is accessible by multiple people would serve my purposes just as well.
