Here is my conversation with someone I am playing right now:-----
medievalchess: hello, and good luck!
gaston: i have beaten the computer on hard so many times i lost count.im also known as the s5raph of Doom.I will break your soul. you will never find another chess player like me.i already have my next 35 moves planned as we speak.fear me.
gaston: how old are u
medievalchess: That's bull, or your rating would show it. Quit trying to intimidate me, and let's just play the game.
medievalchess: Besides even grandmasters might not be able to think 35 moves ahead...it's more like 20.
medievalchess: I am 19
These people drive me up the wall...and his rating is 1021 (not to underestimate him of course).
Here is his following lines and my response, I apologive for the double post.
gaston: dont take forever come on im gonna finish u fast
gaston: u shall find out
gaston: dont let my rating fool u i just started online but i been playin since i was 3.
medievalchess: We shall indeed see.
hey friend, this guy is strange. I would not say that to anyone because it's a moral issue at first and what if i lost?!!!! it will be much more worse than if I said (goodluck to you too)!!!!
good luck friend and show him who is (medievalchess).
I'll try to watch the game.
I've just seen the game
he's losing. I can't see any good reason for him to be that confident!
and his rating now is less than 1000
I think it was just meant to be funny. I guess it takes a unique sense of humor to enjoy it.
Probably best to laugh it off and go your separate ways after your game.
Every now and again, I really enjoy a good trash talking game - for some reason it fires up that personal investment. I think the things he was saying are pretty fun - Seraph of Doom? Break your soul? That's hilarious. Also: the 35 move things is so deliberately hyperbolic that it is clearly intended to be funny.
No need to be "driven up the wall", my friend.
I've really enjoyed chatting with people on chess.com, and for the most part, I prefer and interesting conversation running alongside the chess. In fact, I reeeeally hate it when the other person doesn't speak at all; I have half a mind to resign games on this basis even. I'd much prefer a little, light trash talking that gets my personal investment going than stare at a blank chat window everytime.
Gaston gave you a gift, Medievil. You'll realize it afterwards. When you do win (I haven't looked at the game, but base this on other people's comments) you'll realize that it was more fun and satisfying because he "drove you up the wall" to such a degree as you had to go and make a thread about it.
In summa: Relax.
