Just wondering if anybody enjoys a fine cigar or a pipe smoke during their games.  It's getting harder and harder to find places where you can smoke a pipe or cigar in public, but I sure enjoy it when I have the chance.  Also, for the smokers, any favorite cigars/blends for your games?  I'm a big fan of longer panatelas for chess games, as they tend to last just about the right amount of time.

I guess I'm one of the few lucky ones.. In San Jose, CA there is a new upscale outdoor shopping center called Santana Row. Down the row a bit is a large outdoor patio area that has about 10 chess tables, including one almost life-sized board, with pieces availible at the concierge, and all this right across the street from Cohiba Cigar Lounge.

You can see it here:

I smoke a pipe once a blue moon, usually on nights where I really need to do some deep thinking about my life.  It's very irregular though... I'd say maybe once every couple of months?!?  And I do smoke cigars every now and then with old friends when I go back to my hometown during college breaks.  I think I remember the AVO Domaine 10 being one of my favorite brands.

Ah, the Avo Domaine was one of my favorites.  I actually had a cat named Avo, of course my roommate was a cook, so the name became Avo-Cado

Sounds good... next time I have an hour and a smoke to drop I'll hit u up. I've only got some cheap Sancho Panzas... but maybe I'll drop some dime on an Ashton (I've gotta wait for the Cohibas) - and I've lost my pipes (in storage on the the buccaneered pirate ship Irving)... I'll let u know if I'm playing w a glass or wooden pieces. Ole;{>

I can't imagine anything better than smoke and play chess! I'm a cigarrete user. I enjoy a good cigar once in a while if i have the right company. Pipe i don't enjoy so much.

However it is more and more difficult to do it "inside" any place. And it's alright, for the sake of "the" others.

So, this will turn out be a "summer activity". Laughing

I dont want to start a flamewar, but, although there is undeniable risk inhaling smoke, secondhand smoke has not been proven to affect health that much. But for the confort of others I would totally not smoke in a place where someone would be bothered by the smoke.

I am a pipe smoker. :)

Favorite tobacco: Early Morning Pipe by Dunhill (or what it used to be blended by Dunhill).

I like smoking a pipe while drinking hershey's chocolate milk.

I used to have a old fashioned clay pipe. Not sure where it disappeared too.

I think if someone wants to greatly increase their risk of getting  some kind of cancer or other health problem, they should have a right to do it where it doesn't affect anyone else.

When I was living in Montana, I had a hard time finding a good place to have a cigar while playing a game of chess.  I really like pipes, but I feel smoking them in public -- especially in a colege town like Missoula.  Since moving back to Oklahoma, it's been easier to find a place to have a smoke while playing chess, but I find that I have less time to do so.  Also, the only chess club I've found meets in a book store, so the smoking has mostly been confined to the walls of my favorite tobacconist/employer

hukes, who does the early morning blend now?  Are all the Dunhill blends available from other companies?

rednblack,

Although Early Morning still bears the Dunhill name, it is blended by another pipe tobacco company. I think it is Orlik. I haven't tried it yet. I still have some unopened Early Morning from the Dunhill days.

BigOto, really?  You'd think if that was true they'd put a warning on it or something.

Sigmoid, I love a good cup of coffee too.

For the non-smokers, it's fine if you don't smoke; doesn't bother me in the least.  Just like it's fine with me if you eat fast food every day, even though that's going to kill you a whole lot quicker than cigar will.  Move on.

Hukes, the orlick name sounds familiar, but I'm not sure if I've had any of their blends.  Lately, I'm sad to say that I haven't been smoking any tins, aside from a perique/Virginia mixture put out by Esoterica.
