Also consider that if you go and play OTB, you're more courageous than 80% of people on this website
That`s what I have suspected for a long time. They either have no guts or they live in a "fly-in" fishing camp in northern Ontario and are so isolated that they cannot get to play in OTB events.
Or don't want to spend their weekends moving wooden pieces in silence.
Wooden pieces are rare in tournaments currently. Mostly cheap chinese plastic stuff.
That makes all the difference ;)
The potential barrier to reach a game of chess is significantly lower on the internet than OTB.
If all chess.com users' internet was cut, I guess more than 20% would be forced to go OTB. Laziness is not the same as cowardice (if such a word exists).
Well about timed chess, I decided to play some 10 mins chess on a site called chess.com. Because I worry so much about my ratings on here and what people would think of me I figured that I would get too nervous so I played a 10 min game on chess hotel. It got down to a king and 2 pawn vs a king and 2 pawn endgame and I won on time (I was originally down on time but then I went on a perpetual check ramapge that could of led to mate so I had to make my opponent think a little and eventually I had the time advantage. I won on time with 53 seconds left on my clock.

I was playing white by the way. Because I felt more relaxed I played much better. How do you think I played?
Your board is broken...
What? It said to copy the link and paste it if you wanted to share it.
Just sit down at the table and offer your hand. Be friendly ,confident, cheerfull, and don't be shy about acting like you own the board.... Like A Boss. Have a good time. If you lose , laugh it off and say "Good Game Dude!".
If you win, smile and say "you had me on the ropes a few times, great game".
Then move on. it's only chess for chrissake.
