It would be cool to go back in time to right before the Opera game between Morphy and Issouard. Then you could take white against Issouard and beat Morphy to the punch.

Or go back to right before one of Fischer's losses and take down possibly the greatest player who ever lived. Assuming Fischer would play the same against me that he played against whoever I'm replacing. Hmm, perhaps we could catch him when he's really young and not too good yet.

Any way you like...

Thanks to all of you for your answers!

I'd like to playAbu l-Hasan ‘Ali Ibn Nafi‘ (aka Ziryab) because he probably either introduced chess to Spain, or played a major role in popularizing it. All chess players living in European countries and their colonies owe a debt to Ziryab and a handful of others like him for bringing chess and civilization to medieval Western society.

Personally I would throw the king at him. Much heavier piece.

I didn't grow up where there was much publicity with pro chess players.  I have only heard of Fischer, Kasporov, and Spassky before coming to chess.com.

I would like any game where there was attendance to the game.  I am a competitor who loves to entertain.

Bruce Lee.  I don't think he played Chess, advantage me.  Outside of martial arts and acting he was known for his abilities on the dance floor, the Cha-Cha specifically.  I'd like to beat him up at Chess just so I could kick his arse at something and then tell everyone I ever met thereafter.  Laughing
