Players that habitually drop pieces

Sort:
heinzie

Guys, just don't hang any of the pieces belonging to you, all right? How difficult can it be?

ChessStrategist to me implies to be a solid 1600, and that's good enough for me. When you talk to your neighbour, do you ask him for his rating credentials? This is a writing forum, not a produce-some-chess-moves forum. I haven't played any rated move on this site either in the last two years, but I will refer you to my title as former chess.com player of the month, if you really insist on having my credentials for my trollish comments

here, I will just go straight to the point (as I see it that is). I have often wondered the same thing, specially when i drop I peice (which happens less than before). I would say the main culprit is being to focused on a plan or a side of the board and just forgetting the rest for some time. I no longer drop pieces like I used to, but sometimes after weeks of not dropping peices, I will start dropping pieces till I manage to take back control. Here, I would say the second culprit is over-confidence, which leads to laziness. The last culprit would be lack of experience.

This is simply my view on it.

By the way, the fact that you might be able to beat ChessStrategist in a game of chess doesn't add anything to the validity of your argument and doesn't take away anything from the validity of his arguments. Even if his arguments are invalid already anyway.

Conquistador

You are correct.  I tried to express a point, but I went way over the line in addition to poorly phrasing it.  Apologies to ChessStrategist.

Now

To rephrase, I take issue with taking advice from someone who maintains an attitude of superiority, yet demonstrates a lack of maturity.  I am one to talk after my previous statement, so in good faith I retract my earlier statement and make amends.  ChessStrategist, you can call me a free-loader, or a fake, or whatever title suits you. In any case I have established myself here, you have not.

Conquistador

Anyways I have not played over the board in quite some time so my rating has sat at 1665.  Is it higher?  Probably if I had the time to keep playing.  So am I fake?  Well, I guess that is up to you to decide.

heinzie

I guess it depends on how long it has been since you dropped a piece

If a person comes to a chess site but is unwilling to play unless he can "see his opponents hands," why is that person here? To offer unsolicited advice and often prickly comments? Ratings are not the issue - at least not for me - except that they indicate participation. Hey, I'm a Class C player according to USCF ratings. I will defer to Reb's judgement about the soundness of an opening. If you won't play anyone and you want to express you firmly held opinions in a manner that is often acerbic, do you really believe that anyone will take you seriously? By the way, I am a paying member at the gold star level.

Google these words - Einstellung effect, chess, GM Andrew Soltis - and you will understand why pieces are hung out to dry every day, regardless of the playing strength, and why it can't be stopped, ever.

That's a good thing, otherwise, chess would be more drawish than it already is.

Conquistador

Well looks like we are back where we started.  I am not going to steep down to your trolling.

I'm not going to jump into the the dropping pieces part of this discussion, much more than I have already said in jest here. I will say that there is such a thing a chess/board blindness and a lot of people struggle with it, even when you are trying to make sure nothing is hanging. I have a particularly hard time sometimes with diagonals. But I'm working on it Embarassed

One thing I would like to add; respect is earned and is not the default situation due to surviving a certain amount of time on this earth or some other feelings of self-worth. Of course, I'm just one of the dirty database using players (occassionaly) so I guess my input is suspect Wink.

It's really a shame that you feel you have to see the hands of your opponent just to play a game. You limit yourself on the amount of chess you can play. Me, I'll gladly keep on playing on the site, in person at the local club, at tournaments, wherever. The more chess the better.

Very interesting article. I really need to read my Chess Life's more fully.

There's no fool like an old fool, as they say.

I don't recall that I asked your opinion. You would deny me my opinion??? What does this say about you?

Laughing Opinions are freely given even when they are not actively solicited. What it says about me is that I understand the ideas behind an open forum. Once you post to it, you implicitly ask for other people's opinions and there is no going back: alea iacta est.

No...this info is on my bio...not an open forum. What you are, simply, is an ass.

What info is on your bio? The only thing posted by me, to you, was based completely on your forum posts; both here and on other topics. Nothing more, nothing less. Though, if I am as you say, then I'm happy to be recognized by the master. Tongue out
