When you setup the board do you place knights:
facing forwardfacing to the queen sidefacing kingsidefacing each otherfacing backward!
There is also facing inwards, towards the center.
None of the above. Facing away from each other, towards the edge of the board.
Randomly!
I never know!(cos i never check)
Is it that important to you ? does it matter ? Just set it up that suit you. For me ,I will have them facing the enemy !
*charge !* 10th Light Horse Regiment. lest we forget
facing forward
I don't care as long as their there
I have them facing forward, it looks wierd if they are set in another way
facing each other towards the centre!
Well let's figure this out:
I don't really mind what way they face, but it must fit in my hand...so...
I could have them both turned in (to face the king), turning out, facing left or facing right.
Take your pick...actually that's 4 votes on my behalf...
At the opponent's king!

Cannon to right of them, Cannon to left of them, Cannon in front of them Volley’d and thunder’d;Storm’d at with shot and shell,Boldly they rode and well,Into the jaws of Death,Into the mouth of Hell Rode the two chessmen
Facing each other = Facing inwards
Ah, I didn't even consider that one... that makes me feel like they are preparing to run away...
It's not "that important"-- I had no idea chess.com forums had rules against trivia and curiosity.
Anyway-- that's how I always did it (facing forward) until I was told that was considered by "pros" (ha!) to be disrespectful. And it could be aesthetically displeasing :)
I usually adjust them constantly to stare at the highest piece they are threatening. It's funny... I've played people who actually get disturbed by that. Against those who can't seem to ignore this I some times will slowly rotate the knight once I moved it to point at a certain pawn or other piece it threatens, while I really don't intend to take it. Guaranteed they'll loose time thinking about the "targeted" square.
I know it matters a great deal to some people (I think Kasparov had a clause in one of his matches against Deep Blue that the nights face a certain direction) but I don't let things like that enter my mind. One less way for an opponent to try to psych me out.
I generally start them out facing the King and Queen.
If you turn one left and one right, and never turn them as they're moved throughout the game you'll always know which is which (Queen's knight versus King's).... I don't go this far.
If my opponent seems to like them one way, I'll have them another way. I prefer them facing each other.
I either stand them on their heads or have them at obtuse angles.
