Power Leveling

So, I just got out of high school and I have started taking chess seriously. I went to a state open my sophmore year and got killed 1-4. I was strapped with the ugly rating of 324. I didn't go to another tournament until this summer. With my pathetic rating I played a 424 and two unrated players 2 weeks ago and went 3-0. Two weeks prior to that I went 0-3 against a 2000, 1900, and an 1800. Two days ago I played a 1-4 against three 1700's and a 1500 (guess which one I beat). I go to my club every week and play people around the 1300-1700 range. My rating has really put me up against a wall. I would put myself at Class C strength but this ugly rating has really got me down in the dumps. I want to know what to do to improve this rating. I assume the quickest way is just to get to larger tournaments with a pool that is more to my playing style. I know this may come across as odd but I really felt comfortable playing against these 1700's. I think they could probably best me but I hung on and managed to get some compliments. I can post the most recent games if you guys want. Any tips on getting my rating to a more respectable level and a rating that fits my skills? Additionally, I don't want anyone to tell me that ratings don't matter in the scheme of things. Thanks!

Well my first hint would be to drop the communist picture and more people will help you ; ).  But your lucky I'm feeling helpful at the moment.  While I do not know your playing strength I will try to help as much as possible.  If you wanted to save on cash, to get to be a descent club player (about 1700 uscf) in the next couple months I suggest you first stop playing in tournaments at the moment in order to save money and to save your ego (getting crushed a bunch will make you unsure about your moves and will slow down your progress). So on to an actual study plan . . .

First make sure you have pretty solid foundations and I suggest you go over    http://www.chess.com/download/view/chesskidcom-curriculum and do 1 lesson each day (20 lessons in total) while you can quickly skim over the first 2 or so that explain how to move the pieces I suggest you seriously consider the rest even if you feel you "know the stuff" as having a solid foundation in the basics is PRICELESS.  After each lesson I suggest you use the "live chess" here on chess.com and play 15 minute games and try to incorprate anyting you learned in the lesson into your playing, if possible about 5 games a day would be good.  Just make sure not to do any faster time control as it will slow down your progress.  After you finish all 20 lessons while playing 5 15 minute games a day. (Also while doing the lessons make sure to do all the work sheets and only looking at the answers AFTER YOU COMPLETED THE WORKSHEETS, as looking at them before you are done will only hurt yourself.  After the 20 days (1 lesson a day)+doing the worksheets+5 15 minute games you probably seriously "bumped up your game."  For the next 10 days that month use http://chessok.com/?page_id=359 with levels 1-3 (spending 30 minutes on level 1 tactics, 20 minutes on level 2 tactics, and 10 minutes on level 3 tactics)  and after your 1 hour tactical training play 5 15 minute games on live chess. If you did all i described here, after that 1 month you should be pretty solid. After all of this, you can go back to playing in some uscf tournaments. Also your "standard time" live chess rating on this site should be at least 1700.  Back when I was 1450 I used this plan and went from 1450-1650 going 5 wins out of 6 games in my next two uscf rated tournaments after I finished that 1 month.

Have any questions just re-post here ; ).

I really didn't get crushed. I understand that maybe it makes more sense to play in tournaments that are more my level but I don't like having such a low rating. I think I have the talents of a club player and I'm sure I could always use more practice. I looked into ChessOK and level 1 seems too easy. Level 2 and 3 seem like something I could look at for a minute and try to improve them. I use ChessTempo and have around a 1550.
