I would gladly become premium, especially considering how cheap it is but I'm 14 and I can't pay with Paypal and I doubt my mom would support it so :p

I played on ICC for years.  I still have paid membership there. I have not been for months since I found this site.

Premium membership is VERY worthwhile for me.

Don't you have a bank account?

And, tell your parents you really love chess, pay them the price for a gold membership and have them pay for you!

I have a bank account but you need to be over 18 to do online transactions. My mom supports me playing chess and pays for tournaments, but I was considering that and she'd probably just tell me that she won't do it because she doesn't want me wasting my money like that :p

I do not mean to be snide or snarky. If you get something of value that you want for your money that is not wasting it.  That is wise economics.

Now whether or not monies are available is another issue entirely.  So too another's desire and willingness, or lack thereof, to part with their monies for someone else's benefit.

But, if your mom were to read what I am writing I would state directly to her it is money well spent on her progeny if they are going to use it as a serious resource and it would play a vital part in their learning pantheon.

Sort of a quid pro quo thing.

At the risk of being tared and feathered, premium , basic any membership is not worth it, to many sites offer free chess. Ads well if you dont want to see ads there are players on this site that will tell you how to turn the off for nothing. I like ads and I like free chess.

No other site offer the types of dynamic group play coupled with team matches, vote chess, tactic workshops, running your own tournaments, creating your own unique droup, computer analysis, and interesting cyber trophies (!) combined with an fully attentive staff that is constantly trying out new ideas, soliciting and using member ideas and finding ways to improve and make site better.

Sometimes you get what you pay for.

Here you get more.

And one can opt out at anytime as their is no contractual penalties as you can choose variable plans.

I wager 400 Quatloos that most making such claims as yours urinate more money away on sugar products in one month that would spend here in one year.

Sincerly, and with no tar or feathers,

Not true.  I have many pro friends here.  Many of them are here more and more and on ICC less and less.  Both are great sites.  I am member at both. This fits more types of people than ICC AND here is a little secret:

There are not that many pros and if you think you can make money exclusively off the people making money playing chess you have a very poor business model that will not work.

It is the masses that matter.

Hydroxide,

It is up to you to come up with a solution.

At age 14, I was weeding out with other boys, acres of beets down on my knees and pulling the bad weeds out. I received a premium of $7 after 4 weeks of work being the only one to last the whole 9 yard.

At the age of 17 I collected yellow beans and made $5 a day. This is back in the early 60'. But opportunities still do exist today.

Surely you can mow lawns for some of your neighbours or do something else.

If you can collect half or more of the money, betwen your parents, your god mother and father, your uncles and aunts and your cousins, then all will contribute about $3 each.

As far as using paypal, I don't have it either and I sent a cheque to Chess.com.

It is up to you to find a way to get the money.

You can do it buddy, be imaginative and goal determined.

Best to you in your endeavour.
