What do you think of this idea?

I find it stupid to force top players to play until checkmate and doubt it would make chess more popular, I love chess and even I find it hard sometimes to watch chess games not because I don't understand what's going on but because of the slow nature of the game.

I think enforcing this rule would only result in games where players after deciding they are losing start to play bad moves to finish the games faster. Average Joe will not see anything suspicious  but if I were watching such a game I would feel disapointed.

Well, the problem is that that will all be taking place at the end of the game...long after Mr (& Mrs) Average Joe have tuned the whole thing out.
