So like a fool, I've been subjecting my recent games to the cold glare of the chess.com computer analysis tool. "I've played a good game" thought I, "Surely the computer will agree! Surely that lovely little combo that won a rook deserves an exclamation mark!" Not a bit of it. It turns out that even my best games are riddled with errors. On a few occasions, a move that has taken me literally days to work out turns out to be a mistake, or even a blunder. Which makes sense when you think about it; if this was not the case, I'd be a grandmaster.
My question is, has anyone ever got an "!" from computer analysis on chess.com?
ED.
It doesn´t hand those out.
An opponent happly awarded his own move an exclamation mark during an OTB game I played earlier this year. I have yet to see another exclamation mark since then in any of my games.
it only sees mistakes, not great moves :) the expectation is that you will play perfectly - anything else is bad. it truly is like a mean mean teacher :)
Aha, this is a well known psychological tactic and all should be wary! Sometimes I have been wont to add an exclamation to one of my moves OTB- though not DURING the game! Either they actually think it's an excellent move (in which case they are probably a bit full of themselves) OR they're trying to get you into a negative frame of mind, whereby you will make more mistakes.
I find it more irritating when they add a '?' to my move. Or write '1-0' before the game is over!
I haven't used the computer here but I used to analyse my games with Fritz. I found it just encouraged me to be lazy with my own analysis and leave it up to the computer to find my mistakes. It was also pretty demoralising to find multiple '??' in a game where I'd thought I played pretty well, but it wasn't so bad if my opponent got more.
