Rankings..

I know its nothing definitive, but what would your ranking on here be considered in something like USCF and such. I mean I understand if your ranking on here is 2627 that you are obviously a GM, but what if you are say a 1600? Or if you were a 1496 and just beat a 1972?

Anyway to  break them down as to that?

You beat a 1972? Good job!

I know everyone hates this idea, but percentiles are percentiles.  Find your "% of" rank on here, then look up the same percentile in the USCF to see what your relative strength would be there.

Not sure the percentile conversion is valid.  Here the rating pool is self-selected for the most part - you choose who to play.  Tourrnaments and team matches counter this but they are a small proportion of the rated games played.

USCF's approved tournament systems offer a more random selection of opponents, and therefore yield ratings more accurately representing a player's results.

Most of the high-rated players here are not GMs - the GMs don't play much on the site, so in fact their ratings are often much lower!

Ever wonder why the GMs dont play much here ?  Read this profile of one of the top GMs here, GM Belov : http://www.chess.com/members/view/VB84

So, I guess he will play even the centaurs but ONLY if they pay for the experience !  I think its a great idea myself.

online-chess/CC rating is generally 200-500 points higher than what your USCF would be.  The live chess on here is probably within 100 points or so.

Of course it's different for everyone though.  Best to just look at some one's online chess/CC rating, then check their profile to see if they list their USCF/FIDE/other rating and get a general idea yourself.  That's what I did, and ~300 points difference is a pretty rough estimate.  Of course other things come into consideration... like how many games they play at once, their average opposition, how seriously they take the games... etc.  That's why there's no real conversion.
