What is the rating for someone to consider you a "good" player?  I am not sure what the actuall rating is.  Someone once told me that it was 1400+ but i question that opinion.

    Good is a relative term.

I think a 1200 on this site is probably good enough to beat 80% of all players anywhere who know the rules. Does that make him good? I don't know.

1200 is the average rating, so "Good" in my opinion is anybody above 1200. People above 2000 are usually chess masters.

But there's a big difference between chess.com ratings and actual OTB ratings...

    no we are not.

Masters, on here, tend to be 2200-2400.

    Hi guys,

     I agree with Ichabod!

Additionally, if there is no one 200 points higher than you, ... then you are good!

    Watch your backrank.

    NO because that means nothing

Really Yodina? (I'm assuming that's your statement that a 200 point rating difference is meaningless, and not jchurch's as you've attributed it). What's your record against people rated 200 points higher than you?

i tend to agree that 1800+ is when one starts becoming "good".  it's hard to beat an 1800 player if they are on their game.  i remember when i was 1800 - i thought was a lot better than i actually was lol.  but i was beginning to understand theory, openings, stuff like that.  it's fun!

forgive lower case, i'm on my netbook and it's friggin hard to type on lol.

I agree with pinkpawn97.  When my rating was 1100 i was able to beat a player at almost 1800 so it is skill, not r ating that counts
