Do you have anything constructive to contribute to this debate or have you just jumped in to mouth-off at me?
Scottish-bloke? Who is that? You said you were American.
But anyway, I'll be sure to remember you now, you've made a lasting impression
the Americans need USCF ratings cos they've got no kilts.
Oh, we have kilts, all right - but also the good sense not to wear them in public.
those are capes, Estragon, not kilts.
"New people emerging in chess should be accurately informed what progress to higher-echelons of chess involves."
Anyone who wants to get a FM, IM or GM title will research what those titles entail and would try to obtain a Fide rating.
I have a kilt rating, but no cape rating. Should I start a thread about this difference?
or a thread titled "which is better ? cape or kilt".
Why are you guys arguing about the ratings.. just talke about chess..
So I see I shall start playing OTB and slap anyone that starts anoying squabbles about such petty things as USCF and FIDE and tell them to play chess!
just to hijack things more, there's also the breakaway states of Washington and Oregon, which uses their own rating system for most scholastic tournaments held there. Which confuses the hell out of everyone every time players from these states play in the Nationals - their ratings are always like 500 USCF points underrated.
Well, all scholastic players ought to be on a different system anyway. The large number of players who aren't really players biases the ratings downward, which not only restrains the ratings of the actual players, but also causes deflation in the greater pool as those players migrate into it.
Plus, people from Washington and Oregon should wear kilts.
Junior school then?
Is that what ''scholastic'' means??
Some already do!
