I have recently completed a game against an opponent who refused to resign. I was in a very strong position - see the diagram, in which I am playing as white.

I asked many times, but they refused to resign. In fact, they would not even reply to my request. Without any other option, I managed to checkmate them after another 16 moves. I am writing this post so that other members will know to avoid this person and their unsporting behaviour. Their name is "Little ChessPartner". What was even worse, unbelievably, was that they refused to congratulate me on my victory. Shame on you.

I understand you but if we are watching objectively then you don't have right to ask him that.He could report you.I would report you.

How rude and unsportsmanlike to ask someone to resign! Besides, I think "Little ChessPartner" is a computer program and your post is probably intended to be a joke.

Eric, I propose we add 'resignation etiquette' to 'politics' & 'religion' on the list of topics that will get a thread locked with extreme prejudice (unless, of course, it's funny).  ;-)

This topic made me lol.

All of you who think that Little ChessPartner is anything other than the site's very own computer player are making this even more funny. Damn, I feel so evil.

I think this is over looked I believe Black(added later: That is if its black to move) have won himself/herself or itself if its a software a stalemate since the King can not move and he is not checked(Draw)! and that is a bit shame Four Queens to checkmate?? I do not mean to be bad but you just need to checkmate someone not ask him/her to resign!! I would be looking for a stalemate if I know I can not win! True! Better a stalemate than losing,no?

Me and little chess partner have gotten into it a couple of times.

I'm glad to see you were able to pull out the win.

To ask somebody to resign is one of the most unsportmanlike act!! I think, anybody will get angry on such behavior... If you have the Guts, just go and get your victory!! Yea.. you can complain that He/she is taking too much of time in making his/her move while still being online.. thats a different case.. But never ask anyone to resign!!
