Quite right
We are all equal and deserve respect
Almost always people respect each other over the board. I've only had one instance of someone (a kid no less) trying to cheat me.
Online, identity is veiled; people can and will be much more disrespectful to their opponents. Just a fact of life.
I think that respect for each other is the most important thing in life, Nathalie. It's true in chess as much as anywhere. Sometimes people make mistakes which can come across as disrespect. If it really was a mistake, then I think we should forgive. But if it happens again - it is truly disrepect - and difficult to forgive....
That old saying of "treat others as you would want to be treated" carries over into chess as well...
i agree with all of the above, but what about the other thing that goes hand in hand with respect- SPORTSMANSHIP. I truly believe that these 2 words complement each other and cannot function without eacb other. After a chess match give your opponent a complement (win or loose) that also creates some form of respect and it shows that you are a good sportsman.
u can only become derespecful to the other person if u r a bad looser.so if u r going to get mad for loosing than don't play.
In the shadowy alleys of the Internet I have become a more ardent admirer of things like the Block button. Too many cowboys and vigilantes here. Did I mention I just watched Clint Eastwood in the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly :)
Yes, you should respect your opponents, but also you shouldn´t try to show some picture from the internet like if it´s yours, by lying you are being disrespectful.
like you're a panda right?
(But I must admit, I did think that the angle of the picture was very odd)
Umm, who IS the girl in the pic?

When we play chess, we should respect with each other isn't it.....
