OK, I was gonna say move slower...but no, that's just too weird.

lol, same here.

but heres an idea- (Im thinking of just corr., not sure what to do for live) if you have a chess clock, set it for 5 minutes (or more if needed) and go try not to a make a move until it ends. maybe by 1.1/2 minutes have your candidate moves known.

Time yourself and make sure you don't move BEFORE your minimum time is reached.  For example, in Online Chess (not Live), set yourself a MINIMUM of 10 minutes (example, you might want to use more time) of thinking time.

In Live Chess, it totally depends on the time controls... you need to learn to play to the time controls more than anything in Live and OTB chess.

LOL!

NOLAUPT, what I do is I first look at the board a few minutes, calculating some variations, and if I'm still not sure what to play,I leave it alone and let my subconcious work on it a little bit.I don't play immediately.

pretend that you're living in the 1800's and every game is untimed!

But yeah, the timer idea sounds good. Just don't make any move until some length of time has elapsed.
