I recently started studying checkmate patterns and came across the smotherered mate when the opponents king is surrounded by his own pieces and we use the knight to deliver checkmate!
Whats the easiest and quickest way to deliver smothered mate early on in the game? :)

That's Legal's Mate, not Smothered Mate. Smothered Mate is when the King is only surrounded by his own pieces, and only one piece (the Knight) is dealing the blow.

To me, the smothered mate is the most humourous checkmate there is.

I know, but its pretty close... under 10 moves & mate delivered by a knight Wink

at least with the Legals mate, both sides appear to be playing reasonable moves, I've yet to see an English with 2. e3. and if e3 were played it would most likely be to release the queen & bishop, I cant imagine white opening that path and then immediately blocking it up with a knight on the next move.

This is a well known trap in the Caro Cann opening with smothered mate. You can also get a smothered mate in the Budapest
