Korchnoi, Victor  SUI 2567 1 ½ ½ ½ 0 1 0 ½ 4

Spassky, Boris V  FRA 2548 0 ½ ½ ½ 1 0 1 ½ 4

Spassky did very well for a retired player, don't you think?

Not bad at all. At least the result was better than Spassky-Fischer II.

I think its a just result between two living legends of the game ! Korchnoi has a slight overall plus record against Spassky and they have met about 80 times.

I would say Spassky did okay since he had a stroke earlier this year! That aside both played well and congrats to both!

'The match between the two chess legends, 10th World Champion Boris Spassky from Russia and former World Championship contender Viktor Korchnoi from Switzerland, is the final event in the celebration of the 400th anniversary of the union between Kalmykia and Russia. The two will play a total of eight games in Elista from December 17th until 27th, for a prize fund of US$ 20,000."

It was not FIDE rated though.

Yes I'll say Spassky did alot better since he met Korchnoi in 1948, Spassky was only 11 ?

Surely Korchnoi's retired too though?  He's six years older (born 1931, Spassky was born in 1937).

Korchnoi is still fighting at the board.

Spassky has been retired for awhile though. No doubt enjoying his life.

You can see Viktor below. By contrast his old nemesis Karpov is rated 2619. Not so much of a gap considering Korchnoi's age.

The match was in December last year.  Here are most of the games:

I played quickly through a few. I wasn't reminded of Reykjavik in 1972 or Baguio City in 1978, but they both can still sure play.

I don't know what kind of chess strength it takes to still be playing at that level at (nearly) the age of 80... I know there's no chess hall of fame or honorary WC title, but "living chess legend" is certainly an apt term.

I don't play at anywhere near their level, but I can attest to the fact that chess can keep the brain from atrophying! The German GM, Uhlmann, was playing at 80 and so was Smyslov. Good for them all!
