What is a stalemate?
Put simply, it is when a person has no legal move on their turn. An example:
stalemate is when the oppossing player cant move. Satlemates are draws.

A stalemate is when your king is not in check, but any space he moves too would put him in check, and you have no other pieces on the board that you can move.
When a king is not in check and their is no legal move for the king or any other of the players pieces. Otherwise, if the king moved he would be moving into check which he can't do and there are no (other) legal moves. If a player still has one or more pawns, they are usually blocked. It is something to avoid in end games if you have a winning position and something to try to create if you really want a stalemate, which counts as a draw.
Thanks, that happened in a game I thought I was going to win, and when I didn't, I got pretty ticked off.
Thanks!
a stalemate is equivalent to a draw....
