What studying tactics do to your game?
It improve your visions on patterns (I think I got that right ?)
Depends on the individual and how their game already is. If someone is not looking at possible move responses in their game, then studying tactics will make them think about the next moves and the possibiliites. Therefore it would improve their game a lot.
If the individual was really quite bad at spotting sacrifices, studying tactics will help a lot.
If the individual is already decent at spotting sacrifices and tactics in general and they need to advance their positional game, then tactics will only make that worse.
On several occasions, I have overdone it. Done tactics all day, and then went to an OTB meet. I lost badly because I was looking for tactics that just weren't there and spent way too much time and ended up in chronic time trouble, then lost the game. In that case studying tactics actually makes the player's game worse!
Generally though, it helps people to "sense" when there might be a way to win some material.
I think it opens your vision to other possibilities, that you might other wise over look.at least thats what it does for me.
